The Bill is due today! “Oh, it’ll be fine… I’ll let it go for a while longer and wait until I get a Reminder in the mail“. It is the Reminder. “Oh, that’s okay I’ll wait until I get a Final Notice.“
So many people live this way.
I met a man who put all his bills into a top draw of his desk and waited until he got a “Final Notice” and he would then move it to the second draw. Only after he received a nasty phone call or the threat of legal action did he move it to the bottom drawer. And even then, he only paid the bottom drawer at the end of the month.
The demise of many businesses, especially in economic downturns, is Accounts Receivable. The business collapses and it impacts the staff immediately, it’s customers who rely on it’s services and even the Suppliers, to the business, have lost another customer too.
Interestingly, there is a natural law called: “What goes around, comes around” or also heard as “Swings and Round-a-bouts” or in Christian circles, “What you sow, so shall you reap“.
Take Daniel who was thrown into the Lion’s Den after being falsely accused. God rescued Daniel. And as for his accusers:
At the king’s command, the men who had falsely accused Daniel were brought in and thrown into the lions’ den, along with their wives and children. And before they reached the floor of the den, the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones.
Daniel 6:24
Amazing how things can turn around on you and bite you in the proverbial!
The man, with the Drawer Bill Paying System, has gone bankrupt and lost everything.
The lesson, we can all learn from these guys, is this:
If you want to be paid on time, then you pay your bills on time (or even before!). If you want good friends, then you be a good friend first. If you want to be around joyful people, then be joyful yourself. If you want people to be polite to you, then be polite first.
“What goes around, comes around” applies in all situations… some may take longer than others, but it will happen.
