In England, The Royal Windsor Rose and Horticultural Society is one of the oldest organisations, and has been honoured with the patronage of six Sovereigns since 1892. There is a story of a man who won the show in three consecutive years and in the interests of lifting everyone else’s game, he had to share his secret as to how he had the most wonderful roses.

You can imagine the shock and horror from all the gardeners, who meticulously pruned their roses stem by stem, branch by branch, in a precise and calculated manner, when he is rumored to have said that one year he was so ticked off with his wife that he took to her rose garden with a chainsaw!

The roses loved it! The results spoke for themselves. Pruning with a chainsaw works.

As Christians, we are the Roses in our Father’s Eye and Jesus is the root stock. Why then are we shocked when the Father prunes us?

There are times when a nip here or a snip there is appropriate…other times the chainsaw is needed!

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. John 15:1,2
