The recent tragic fires here in Victoria have stunned the nation.

The amount of land burnt is almost the size of Rhode Island (smallest State in the USA). By the time the fires get under control it will exceed this size.

At the time I write this, 181 people are confirmed dead (more yet to be found) and 900+ homes have been destroyed and 7,000 people are displaced.

As we watch the news, our heart begins to pour out to these people. We realise what it would be like if we were in their position.

Why is it that Aussies seem to respond so generously? Personally, I believe it is built into our DNA as a country – and the DNA came through our Christian heritage.

One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world. (This happened during the reign of Claudius.) The disciples, as each one was able, decided to provide help for the believers living in Judea. Acts 11:28,29

A severe famine and they gave as each one was able. It is at times like this we can call upon the money we saved for a “rainy day” and give as we are able. In Australia, we are more than able.

Prayer: Lord thank you for Your many blessings for we are indeed very rich. What would you have me give to help those who are in desperate need, right now? In Jesus Name I ask it. Amen.
