It starts as small children – “I want THAT toy! Waaaa…” As a young male teenager, it was, “I want THAT girl! Grrrrr….” And then as an adult, “I want THAT job, promotion, house car, whatever…and NOW!”

There are times when things don’t go our own way. We get stressed and we begin to try and do all sorts of things to ‘make it happen’. We begin to connive, manipulate, strive and fight to aggressively ‘get it’. Leaders of Nations have gone to war over such matters.

But, we don’t always get what we want. And sometimes, when we look back in retrospect, we realise it wasn’t what we needed or what was best for us. For example, when I wanted to eat all the lollies my Mum would say, “No!” But I would pester her, “Can I, Can I, huh, huh, can I? Pleeeease…Can I? Huh?” and if I pushed and manipulated enough I might just get my own way. Once I did. Then I was sick. The whole bag of lollies is not what I needed…I did need my Mum to continue to say, at the very least, “No!”

As a Christian, I have come to realise that things don’t go the way we want in life. I don’t always get what I want…and for good reason…although I don’t always understand the ‘why’.

But one thing I do know, and this is it:

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28

I am so glad I am able to trust God in all matters for He alone knows best in all things.

Trust comes out of intimacy. Do you know God intimately?
