I love the old films about the knights, chivalry and honour; like Robyn Hood and Camelot, etc. One of the best types of scenes I love is when the king arrives incognito and no one realises. The crowd is gathered and a righteous soul is standing his ground against the baddies. He proves his loyalty to the king, when all of a sudden the king makes his presence known to one and all. There is a gasp from the crowd as they realise who stands before them and they all drop to one knee and bow. The baddie recoils and falls upon the mercy of the king.
It is interesting that when Jesus was arrested a simular scene unfolded.
Judas leads the attachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and Pharisees. It is night and they find their way to the grove by burning torches and lanterns.
Jesus went out and met them on their way to where he was, and asks the question, “Who is it you want?” and they replied, “Jesus of Nazareth”.
They are men of authority, armed and were consumed by their mission. The light was dim. And they were challenged.
But the person they least expected to come challenge them was the King! And the instance He reveals himself to them, an interesting thing happens.
“I am he,” Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.) When Jesus said, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground. John 18:5,6
When suddenly confronted by the King of kings, Lord of lords, the Living Christ, the only response to His Majesty was to draw back and fall to the ground.
And personally for me, a similar scene unfolded.
When I was first introduced to Christ, my response was to fall on my knees and cry as I realise who I was standing before. The instant realisation that I was the ‘baddie’, the one who had turned my back on the King and had persecuted His royal subjects, terrified me!
But Christ, my King, showed compassion and mercy and stepped forward, held my hand, lifted me up from the mirey clay and forgave me for turning my back on Him.
Not only that, He made me a part of His family, a Royal Priesthhood, a joint heir with Him!
Have you met my King? For when you do, there is only one saving response you can make and it is found HERE.
