Deadline approaches. The huge conference is looming and I am frantically searching for some more volunteers to help out with hospitality and the ushering. Everyone I ring is busy, all legitimately I might add. But my dilemma is pressing. I begin asking others if they know of anyone who can help. No.
Finally, after weeks of searching, I slump down in my chair and mutter, “I give up.”
Then I prayed, “Lord I’ve tried everything in my own strength, but I can’t find anyone. Please help.”
Almost immediately my phone rings. It is a man who was wondering if I needed help at the conference. Within 2 hours I had another phone call. Then another. By the end of the day I had all my positions filled. For the following day I had a couple more call too… totally exceeding my need.
All that striving, for weeks, in my own strength. Where was my faith? Awww, why didn’t I do it that way first?!
It would seem that Paul had come across a similar thing and this is what he said.
Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort? Galatians 3:3
In the scripture, where this is found, Paul was challenging the Galatians about their faith.
He was reminding them of their faith.
I try to remember the lesson above, although not always, but I am getting quicker at remembering.
How about you?
